Tips for Music Students

11 January 2009 No Comment

The first requirement in learning music is probably the same as it is for the learning of anything; the student must want to learn. Motivation to learn is therefore the number one priority.

By including music in more of your life, you can increase your ‘feel’ for the music. As music is largely about rhythm an pitch, by listening and feeling the music, you will grow your music abilities.

Attending classes once a week is simply not enough. Doing your ‘homework’ is also not the solution!

Get involved in as many music activities as possible, especially as a child. The school choir, ballet, dancing, singing in shows, etc. all serve to improve your music abilities.

So don’t be afraid to explore different music avenues and genres.

Getting your own instrument is also important, as this gives you a sense of commitment. Many students build up a special relationship with their instrument, as each instrument seems to have its own personality.

Reading of music is also important. By being able to read music, you open up the doors of endless possibilities.

In conclusion, I would say that the more you make music a part of your life, the more you will enjoy it, and the better you will be at it!
